Current research and development at The Whiteley ClinicWe have several research projects and developments currently ongoing: ● We are showing that EVLA with our new 1064 nm laser (kit designed by Mark Whiteley) causes less pain and bruising than the standard 810nm EVLA and EVLT systems ● We have had our paper accepted showing our TRLOP technique for closing IPVs is as effective as any other treatment technique – including SEPS – but is pinhole only and can be done under local anaesthetic Our aim is, and always has been, to provide the very best treatment for our patients as cost effectively as possible. Since our introduction of these techniques, we have taught many clinicians. Some have set up their own practices – some have set up companies. We applaud the introduction of our techniques – but as with anyone not involved in the actual research and development, many of those promoting our techniques do not use (or know) our latest techniques. As such many claim to use our techniques, protocols and methods. However, before choosing who should treat patients veins, one should question: ● Do you use Duplex ultrasound
both diagnostically and intra-operatively? ● Do you use both Radiofrequency Ablation (such as VNUS Closure® FAST™) and EVLA laser – as VNUS Closure® FAST™ cannot always treat the veins identified? ● Do you use TRLOP and always treat IPV’s (1 in 2 people need this)? ● Do you perform Transvaginal Duplex Ultrasound and have access to pelvic vein embolisation – and do you regularly treat people this way (1 in 5 ladies who have had children require this)? ● Do you perform Ultrasound guided foam and liquid sclerotherapy? If you do use foam, do use use an Oxygen/Carbon dioxide mix instead of air? ● Do you keep all of your figures on database for analysis? We are a private clinic as when Mark Whiteley worked in the NHS, very little funding was available for Varicose Veins and so he was unable to treat his patents to the level that he (and they) wished. As a private clinic, we keep our prices as low as possible but will not compromise on our quality. Although most Private Medical Insurance companies work with us to make sure their clients get the best treatment for a fair price, we have found one company impossible to work with since summer 2008. As such, at the current time we do not see patients insured with AXA PPP as we have no working relationship with that company.
